About KEUFC

Welcome to

Kilglass Enniscrone United F.C.

Kilglass Enniscrone United Football Club (KEUFC) stands as a proud pillar of the West Sligo community, dedicated to fostering a love for soccer and developing local talent.

Our club’s journey began in 1978 as Enniscrone United FC, founded by a group of passionate local players. After 18 successful years in the Mayo League, which included two club competition victories, Enniscrone United FC strategically moved to the Sligo-Leitrim League in 1996 to continue with winter soccer. A pivotal moment arrived in 1998 with the amalgamation of Enniscrone United FC and Kilglass FC, forming the vibrant club we are today.

Over the years, KEUFC has proudly upheld its mission to provide a safe, welcoming environment for players of all ages and abilities. In doing so, it became the first club in County Sligo to be awarded the FAI Club Mark, recognising our commitment to best practices on and off the field.

The Grounds

Our home ground, Michael McGowan Park, named in memory of a dedicated former club chairman, has evolved into a top-class facility thanks to tireless community fundraising and generous support from local businesses and volunteers. The pitch was officially opened in 2003 by our friends at Sligo Rovers and has hosted some memorable occasions — including a visit from Sir Alex Ferguson in 2005 and an FAI delegation in 2015 led by Irish legend Ray Houghton, who famously praised the pitch with the words, “Now that’s a pitch!”

The club now boasts impressive facilities, including a full-size UEFA-certified 4G all-weather pitch, complete with floodlights for year-round play. There’s also a 5-a-side AstroTurf facility, which is perfect for our thriving underage nursery program, alongside modern changing rooms equipped with showers and toilet facilities.

We take great pride in our youth development. From U6s up to U17s, the club has nurtured hundreds of young players through the years — both boys and girls. Notably, KEUFC helped launch the careers of David O’Dowd, who played in the League of Ireland with Sligo Rovers and Galway United, and Darragh Tuffy, who went on to represent Ireland at U15 level and is now a coach with Blackburn Rovers in the UK.

Continued Investment

Off the pitch, KEUFC continues its strong commitment to investing in both its infrastructure and the community. Back in 2016, we opened an all-weather Astro pitch, significantly enhancing training capabilities. This was followed by further upgrades in 2017, including improvements to the access road and the installation of street lighting. A major leap forward occurred in 2023 when the club secured €200,000 in Leader funding, enabling the conversion of our existing grass pitch into a full-size UEFA-certified 4G surface—a significant project led by the renowned SIS Pitches. Most recently, in 2025, the club installed floodlights on this main pitch, dramatically increasing its usability and allowing for more extensive training and matches throughout the year.

We are especially proud of the Edward O’Dowd and Gerry Gilroy Stand, a fully wheelchair-accessible facility named in honour of two cherished members of the KEUFC family.

Fundraising

Community is at the heart of everything we do. From joint fundraisers like the Blotto with our local GAA club Enniscrone Kilglass, to support for local causes and initiatives, we believe a strong club is built on strong community ties.

Today, KEUFC stands as a beacon of sport, spirit, and inclusion in west Sligo. We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have helped build and support our club — our volunteers, coaches, committee members, players, sponsors, and especially our long-serving club secretary Pat McKeown, who has been a cornerstone of the club since its foundation.

We are proud of our past and excited for the future — and we look forward to welcoming you to Michael McGowan Park.
